This may surprise some of you, but Little Rocky Run just conducted its annual election.  Let me tell you what happened.  A few months ago a team of dedicated volunteers agreed to support the community by committing to take as many hours as possible to count the votes received at HOA headquarters. 

We thought there might be as many as 5,444 votes to count so we were planning on a long evening February 28, when the tally was to be taken.  The Election Committee was thrilled when four of our most outstanding and dedicated Little Rocky Run citizens – Jeff Hummel, Alec Monroe, Joe Stein, and Jerre Thomas – volunteered to run for the Board to fill three available slots.  From our perspective (and we are sure yours as well), this was a no-lose proposition for the community.  Thanks to the outstanding service of our Community Association Staff, the ballots went out like clockwork in February – not a glich in sight.  Surely there would be a strong and satisfying turnout and Little Rocky Run would enjoy a vibrant and stimulating election experience. 

However, when the dust settled and the ballot boxes were opened the election committee found just 233 ballots cast –  4.3% of the total available.  I won’t speculate here as to the meaning of the light response – so let’s go to the results.  At the end of the day, when the votes were counted, the election did not disappoint.  The vote was quite close and each candidate garnered strong support.  The three Board seats were won by Jeff Hummel, Alec Monroe, and Joe Stein – congratulations to all.  And congratulations to Jerre Thomas who received the support of over 100 of his neighbors.  That tells me that the community is looking for Jerre to continue to seek a leadership role in Little Rocky Run. 

The Election Committee was pleased to participate in democracy at the neighborhood level.  All of us are winners in the long run.  We hope that everyone in Little Rocky Run will be proud of the election results, and even more, that those who, for whatever reason, did not vote this year, will participate next year.  May God bless you all and our wonderful community.
